ABOUT
Shelby Christine is a contemporary artist, ultra runner, and T1D living in San Francisco. Shelby’s art explores themes around chronic illness, identity, and life cycles. With a BA in Communication Studies, specialising in Mass Media and a Masters in Nonprofit Administration, her primary objective with her art practice is to be in service of her community.
Shelby explores the dynamics of both natural and artificial support, examining their construction, evolution, and the ways they are conceived and observed. Her choice of materiality for her sculpture and video works range from the uniquely specific medical waste to the ubiquitous and universal blood— showcasing this interest in natural resources and achievements of the scientific community. Through her work, she establishes a threshold— a liminal space that bridges seemingly incompatible or disparate elements.
I acknowledge the Ramaytush Ohlone people as the original inhabitants and traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I pay respect to Elders; past, present and emerging.
